New Hall Under Construction

The future of housing at Purdue is coming in August 2009...

Welcome

When completed prior to the fall 2009 semester the hall will house up to 365 students, each in a single-bed room with a private bathroom. Resident rooms will be joined in clusters that share a common gathering space, kitchenette and laundry.

Tom Paczolt, the hall's general manager, said Purdue University Residences is providing the new option in response to a new generation of students who grew up with their own bedrooms.

"This option gives them privacy with all of the advantages of living in residence halls such as a secure environment, friends close by, an affordable and convenient meal plan, a cleaning service, easy access to campus," Paczolt said. "This is the future of university housing."

The hall will be open to all campus residents with priority given by the number of years a student has lived in University Residences. Paczolt expects most residents will be junior and senior undergraduates.

The hall also will feature a community center that includes a conference room, multipurpose room, recreation room and student club rooms.

University Residences is completely self-supporting and receives no state or federal money. This building will be funded entirely by user fees.

Why build another residence hall?

The new hall will help compensate for space lost to recent and planned renovation building changes. The all single rooms with private bath facility will provide students with a “move-up” option in addition to suites and apartments.

Why build this type of housing?

A facility of all singles with private baths was chosen following a lengthy study and surveys of students. Offering a facility with private rooms and baths is very popular at other major universities. Our new facility will allow students to have a sense of privacy yet we maintain a community atmosphere by clustering the rooms around a common living/gathering room.
