Faculty Fellows

Welcome to the Purdue University Faculty Fellow Program. The Faculty Fellow Program takes an inspired approach to facilitate informal interaction between students living in University Residences and Purdue faculty and staff outside of the classroom. We hope you will consider this opportunity to become more involved with Purdue students.

Overall Objective

The Faculty Fellow Program promotes a personalized experience for students by association with faculty and staff on an informal basis outside the classroom and office.  The program offsets the degree of depersonalization, which is inherent in any institution, satisfies the needs of students for individual time and attention, and promotes student awareness of the opportunity for intellectual, social, cultural, and personal growth.

Faculty Fellows come from all walks of the University: vice-presidents, deans, department heads, administrators, faculty and staff.  Acting upon reviews and recommendations by the residence hall students and Residential Life staff, the Director of Residential Life appoints Faculty Fellows to a particular residence hall on an annual renewal basis.  A Senior Faculty Fellow is chosen for each hall to help coordinate the hall's program.

Letter from the Director

Dear Faculty Fellows,
As I settle into my new role as Director of Residential Life, I am so excited by all of the great things happening in University Residences that I can’t help but feel fortunate to be a part of it all. Although I am new to my role, I am not new to Purdue, having worked in University Residences for the past nine years.  During that time, I have come to truly appreciate the Faculty Fellow Program and what it provides for our residents.  Thank you for being a wonderful resource for our students and being a great contributor to the positive experience that students gain through their time in University Residences.

I have met a great number of Faculty Fellows over my time at Purdue and I have witnessed firsthand the impact they have on our students’ lives.  With Faculty Fellows and University Residences staff working together, we are able to enhance the Purdue experience for each and every student who lives with us, giving them advice and support so that they develop and mature within University Residences.

When you think about your impact and opportunities that you have as a Faculty Fellow to make a lasting impression and in fact a lasting friendship with the students on your floor or in your unit, the possibilities are boundless.  I hope that you find the information on this website to be a good resource for you.  Whether you have been a Faculty Fellow a day or a lifetime, I think it is always good to look at the students and their needs with a fresh set of eyes.

Please know that as your journey as a Faculty Fellow continues, it is my sincere hope that you will find the experience one that will enrich your life as it enriches the lives of our students.  I am always available to help in any way you might need.  Thank you again for sharing your time and your talents with University Residences staff and students.

Sincerely,

Kevin Maurer
