How is my eligibility determined?
Eligibility is determined by where you currently live, your current University classification, and whether your room is available for the 2017-2018 Academic Year.
Why is my eligibility date later than others?
Your eligibility is determined by your current University Residences criteria. If you have been displaced from your room because it will be unavailable, you will be given additional priority to renew your housing contract during the “Juniors, Junior Special Residents and Displaced Residents” phase.

Can I contract for only one semester?

Contract renewal is for the 2017-18 Academic Year.  However, if you plan to withdraw, graduate from Purdue University, or leave for a Study Abroad Program or Co-op position at the end of the 2017 Fall Semester, then you will be released from your housing contract for the 2018 Spring Semester and will not be billed housing charges for the second semester.  You will have the opportunity to notify your residence’s main office in October 2017 that you’re not planning to return to Purdue University for the second semester.

If your plans change and you will be attending classes at Purdue’s West Lafayette campus for the 2018 Spring Semester, then your housing contract will remain in force.

Students who will be on a co-op position, a study abroad program, or who are called to military active duty during the fall semester but want to contract for the spring semester will have the opportunity to do so in October of 2017 at www.housing.purdue.edu.

Preferences

How is the preference information used?
The preferences are a series of questions to assist residents in selecting rooms and roommates. You can see the preferences of the person you select as your roommate. Learning and discussing any areas of difference between your preferences and those of your roommate may help avoid an issue later. University Residences also uses the information to help match roommates in the event that a resident does not request a roommate and there is a vacant space in their room.
What are the housing options for single graduate students?
Single graduate students are housed at Purdue Village and Hilltop Apartments. The spaces at Purdue Village Apartments for single graduate students are two bedroom apartments for two students. In addition, one bedroom apartments for one student are also offered for single graduate students at Purdue Village Apartments. Hilltop Apartments offer single graduate students one bedroom apartments for one student.

Room Availability

When I try to select my own room, it says I am "displaced." What does this mean?
A displaced student is one whose room will be unavailable for use during the contract period. Most rooms become unavailable due to requirements for Honors College, Learning Communities, or a change in space management.
Can someone else contract for my current room?
Yes, but they must wait until after the "Return To Your Same Room" phase is complete. That is why we encourage you to renew your housing contract for your current room in the "Return To Your Same Room" phase. Doing this will guarantee you a space in your current room. You can always select a different room in a later phase.
If a room I wanted is unavailable in one phase, could it be available in a later phase?
Yes. More room choices are available in each phase. Once a room is made available in one phase, it will remain available in successive phases unless someone signs a contract for it.
What if the resident of a room in which I want to live tells me I can have their room next year?
That will make no difference in your ability to select the room. In order to reserve the room, you must select it before someone else.
Are there floor plans available for any residence halls?
There are a limited number of floor plans available to view online. Please visit www.housing.purdue.edu and view Housing/Residence Halls.

Roommates

How will my roommate know I have requested them?
If you have requested a roommate, the student you have requested will be sent an email notification. They will then need to either accept or reject your request.
Will I have a room to myself if I don't request a roommate?
No. University Residences reserves the right to consolidate the room assignment of continuing residents who do not select a roommate during the contract renewal period. If consolidation is necessary, you will remain in the residence for which you contracted and will be notified of your new assignment and roommate.
Why do I have to know the Purdue Career Account Login of the person I want as my roommate?
Knowing the Purdue Career Account Login of the person you request as your roommate helps ensure the correct person is assigned as your roommate. This information is also used as an identifier in the system.
What if my choice for roommate does not currently live in University Residences?

Requested Roommate will be an Incoming New Student: You may request an incoming new student as long as they have signed a housing contract and answered the Personal Preference questions for the 2017-2018 Academic Year.

Note: Students currently living off campus who want to live in University Residences for the 2017-2018 Academic Year will be required to place their name on a waiting list. If space in University Residences is available after May 5, 2017, they will be notified and will be given eligibility to sign a housing contract.

Mutual roommate requests are honored if possible, as long as a housing contract has been completed and the roommate request accepted before May 5, 2017 for the new student, and February 28, 2017 for a current University Residences student.

What if I don't see my roommate's name?

If a person's name is not in the Purdue Directory, it is most likely because they are not admitted to the University or have recently been admitted but not yet accepted their offer of admission. Contact your requested roommate to confirm they are admitted and have accepted their offer of admission for the 2017-2018 Academic Year.

(NOTE: Your requested roommate may need to contact (765) 494-4000 for assistance in setting up their Purdue email address.)

How will an Incoming New Student be notified that I have selected them as my roommate?
If you have requested a roommate, the student you have requested will be sent an email notification. They will then need to either accept or reject your request.
If my roommate is an incoming freshman, can they still live with me at Hillenbrand or Hawkins?
For the 2017-2018 Academic Year, freshmen will also be eligible for assignment to Hillenbrand Hall. Hawkins Hall is for undergraduates who will be college sophomores, juniors, or seniors. Freshmen will not be eligible for assignment to Hawkins Hall.
How does an incoming new Purdue University student not living in University Residences contract for housing?
Students currently living off campus who want to live in University Residences for the 2017-2018 Academic Year will be required to place their name on a waiting list. If space in University Residences is available after May 5, 2017, they will be notified and will be given eligibility to sign a housing contract.
Can I select a different roommate?
If your requested roommate has not yet accepted your request to be roommates, you may edit your contract and remove them as a requested roommate. If they have already accepted your request to be roommates, signed a contract, and are in the same room to which you have contracted for next year, you must change rooms if you wish to live with someone else.
Can I select a different roommate later in the process?
  1. If you wish to change roommates prior to 11:59 p.m. EDT on February 28, 2017, revise your request by updating your contract in Contract Renewal.
  2. If you wish to change roommates after February 28, 2017, contact the residence main office where you contracted to reside for the 2017-2018 Academic Year.
What if my requested roommate does not attend Purdue for the 2017-2018 Academic Year?
If your requested roommate decides not to attend Purdue for the 2017-2018 Academic Year, they must cancel their signed housing contract online before Contract Renewal closes at 11:59 p.m. on February 28, 2017. If they withdraw from the University after Contract Renewal ends, you should contact the residence main office where you contracted to reside for the 2017-2018 Academic Year for information regarding your new roommate assignment.
What if I do not attend Purdue for the 2017-2018 Academic Year?
If you decide not to attend Purdue University for the 2017-2018 Academic Year before the contract renewal process ends, you must cancel your contract online. You will receive an email confirmation and your roommate will receive an email notification. If Contract Renewal has closed and you then decide to not attend Purdue for the 2017-2018 Academic Year, you should contact the residence main office where you contracted to reside for the 2017-2018 Academic Year.
Why can I not request a roommate at this time?
In order for both students to be able to reserve their own room during the "Return to Your Same Room" phase, the option to request a roommate will not be available during this particular phase.  Once the next phase of Contract Renewal begins, students returning to their own room wishing to request a different roommate may do so if space is still available in their own room.  They will have the opportunity to request a roommate and assign their roommate request beginning with the start date of their University classification priority phase date.
How will my roommate know I have chosen them?
If you have requested a roommate, they will be sent an email notification. They will then need to either accept or reject your request.
