Giving to University Residences

Creating a positive impact on someone else’s life is an incredible gift. Giving to University Residences will allow us to continue to create opportunities for leadership, professional development, support and community for Boilermakers now – and the future. In addition to the world-class education that Purdue provides in the classroom, we realize that significant learning happens outside the classroom, as well. That’s where University Residences and the Division of Student Life as a whole comes in to the picture. Think about your own college experience and the memories closest to your hear. We are willing to bed that many of those memories took place beyond the lab or lecture hall.

If you want to help other Boilermakers on their own journey, consider helping us create special experiences through a gift to University Residences. Whether you were a former counselor, resident assistant, hall president or officer, or a student who appreciated the positive impact our people and programs had on your life – we welcome you to join the network of alums and staff who make meaningful campus connections possible. Read on for ways to give and the impact your donation could have on current and future students.

Giving Opportunities

University Residences Leadership Fund

University Residences continues to offer many different leadership opportunities for student success. Many students living with us are eager to shape their experiences through involvement in their residence hall community. To continue offering the personal and professional development growth you’ve experienced through Residential Life programs to these students, we need your support.

Your financial gift can impact current Boilermakers through programs such as the Club President’s and Club council roles. Men’s and Women’s Leadership Series, each of which provide networking and leadership development opportunities for residents. Opportunities to transform a student’s experience go well beyond these programs and serve as catalysts for friendships, mentorships and transformative experiences.

University Residences Gift Fund

We are so proud of the numerous leadership opportunities that University Residences provides for students. We offer workshops, retreats, events, guest speakers, internships, trips, hall governing bodies, National Residence Hall Honorary (NRHH), Residence Hall Association (RHA) and the Men’s and Women’s Leadership Series (just to name a few). This fund supports these leadership initiatives and professional development opportunities for students living in University Residences. The UR Gift Fund provides financial backing for residents to attend conferences and events, as well as advanced learning opportunities on and off campus.

RAISE (Resident Assistant Impacting the Student Experience) Fund

Resident assistants are students hired by University Residences to supervise and assist other students who live in the same residence hall or apartment. These students take on a number of responsibilities to create a supportive and inclusive campus experience for their peers. They are a shoulder to lean on, a repository of information and campus resources and a distributor of communication to their residents. They help at the front desk, are required to be on-call and take a course to help them grow in their professional development and training.

Several years ago, after a campus-wide evaluation of finances, Purdue's central administration determined it would no longer be able to waive tuition costs for resident assistants. University Residences, however, believes it is imperative that we recruit the best and brightest for these positions that play such a critical role in the success of our student residents. Tuition remission is a key factor in attracting Purdue's best students, but our annual expense for this is currently more than $2 million.

The RAISE Fund was established in 2006 to help defray our cost of providing tuition for resident assistants. Your gift helps provide the highest level of quality leadership to our student residents as they make the important transition to adulthood. Consider making a gift to this worthy fund to help our resident assistants be the best peer mentors to other Boilermakers and grow professionally in their own individual life journey.

Named Endowments

Sarah Ayers Puls felt so strongly about her time as a counselor and staff resident in Shreve Hall that she created the first RAISE Fund endowment, which will generate income for resident assistant tuition into perpetuity. Each year, one resident assistant in Shreve Hall will be named the Sarah Ayers Puls Resident Assistant and will be recognized as such in the building's main lobby. Sarah will have opportunities to interact with the recipient throughout the year, including being seated next to her student at the annual resident assistant dinner.

Named RAISE Fund Endowments and other funding priorities may be endowed with a gift of $50,000 or more, payable over five years. Corporate matching programs can be an effective way to help create an endowment named for yourself, or in honor/memory of someone else.

Executive-in-Residence Fund

The Executive-In-Residence Program provides a channel of professional connection between current Boilermakers and successful alumni. Students hear from dynamic individuals who were once sitting in the same classrooms and living in the same residence halls as they are right now. Whether is passing a rigorous physics course or making the All-American Marching Band, students quickly realize how much they have in common. This unique mentorship program began in 2014 when our first executive, Rusty Rueff, came back to campus to share his knowledge and life experiences with students. Since then, numerous execs visit each semester, staying on campus for a week full of events like “Coffee and Consulting” where students can get professional advice and encouragement. Donating to this program will continue to allow us to connect current and future Boilermakers and keep this impactful program going strong.

Ron Fruitt Residential Life Fund

The Ron Fruitt Residential Life Fund is an account that the director of University Residences can use to fund fresh ideas for programming and one-time learning opportunities for students who might not otherwise be able to afford the opportunity. Your gift to this fund allows us to avoid doing the “same old thing” every year and instead, incorporate new ideas and vision to address the ever-changing needs of the student body at Purdue.

Purdue Parent Fund

We recognize the importance of a strong partnership with parents and families with a successful college experience. The Purdue Parent Fund helps defray expenses incurred in the Purdue Family and Parent Office during STAR (student transition, advising and registration) and Boiler Gold Rush (BGR – our new student orientation). It is also used to fund requests from student organizations for programming efforts. Consider making a gift to keep the connection between the university and Boilermaker parents strong and collaborative.
