Balance Key to Ohlwine’s Fulfilling Campus Experience

With graduate classes, an on-campus job and extracurricular activities, Katelyn Ohlwine has a lot on her plate.

Ohlwine, who is pursuing a Master of Science in Accounting with Krannert School of Management, serves as a student hiring manager with central hiring for Purdue Dining & Culinary and is a member of the Purdue Dance Team. In addition to careful planning and scheduling, Ohlwine says the key to balancing her involvement is keeping open lines of communication between supervisors, coaches and leaders of the activities she pursues.

Hartley Celebrates Retirement After Nearly 30 Years of Service to University Residences

Elizabeth Hartley will retire at the end of February 2022 after nearly 30 years of service to University Residences, many of which have been spent creating connections between Boilermaker students, staff and alumni. 

Hartley held numerous positions in Residential Life, beginning with an assistant manager position – approximately the equivalent of today’s residence education coordinator (REC) position – in Meredith Hall. She also worked with students of Earhart, Shreve, Hillenbrand and Windsor Halls in various Residential Life capacities. For the past eight years, she has served as the director of alumni relations and engagement for University Residences, where she was instrumental in launching the University Residences Alumni and Guest Center.

For Toyinda Smith, leadership begins with relationships – and it’s these relationships that have helped define her journey from Purdue student to successful alumna.

Relationships developed at every stage of her Purdue experience have shaped her journey from resident in Harrison Hall and standout student-athlete to young Residential Life professional and now, author, motivational speaker and leadership coach. It’s these positive influences that helped bring Smith back to campus to speak to University Residences’ Women’s Leadership Series (WLS) Men’s Leadership Series (MLS).
