Students Enjoy Successful Move-In

Student volunteers greet arrivals with enthusiasm.
The excitement of move-in is perhaps the first defining moment of the college experience. As students settle into their rooms and meet their room and floormates, many of the relationships that will define their time at Purdue begin to take shape. It can also be a time of anxiety and uncertainty as students find where they fit on campus. A smooth move-in and check-in can help alleviate some of those concerns.

In order to ensure a safe and healthy move in, University Residences instituted a reservation system and satellite check-in for move-in. Students reserved a move-in time and checked in at either the Purdue Airport, Discovery Park or Ross-Ade Stadium before proceeding to their residence halls.

Once there, they received an enthusiastic welcome from resident assistants and move-in volunteers.

The typical scenes of move-in were everywhere – students carrying totes, family members unloading futons, printers and mini-fridges, the buzz of new students receiving their welcome to campus and returning students catching up with old friends.

Families are always an important part of move-in, with many former Boilermakers sharing their own memories of rooms, roommates, and times spent with friends. Inevitably, there are also tough goodbyes – it’s a new beginning for many parents as well. The sense of pride families have in their Boilermaker though is constant and evident.

These photos are just a small taste of the excitement of this year’s move-in, the majority of which took place between August 14-22.
