Allergen-Free Station Added in Earhart

Man orders food from Infinite Solutions

Purdue Dining & Culinary has added a new station dedicated to allergen-free offerings in Earhart Dining Court to make managing food allergies easier for students.

The new station, known as Infinite Solutions, offers meals free of the top nine allergens – milk, eggs, peanuts, tree nuts fish, shellfish, wheat, soy and sesame. Menu choices include custom entrees like salads, rice bowls, baked potatoes and more. With an estimated 10.8 percent of adults in the U.S. possessing a food allergy, allergen-free stations serve an important role in offering accessible meals for students.

Allergen-free stations provide a new offering that reduce risk for cross-contact and provide a dedicated and consistent space for students to receive meals. Dining & Culinary also labels all food products and offers resources like Mobile Menus to help students with food allergies make informed choices.

Most of the food served at Infinite Solutions is prepared and cooked within the station to minimize the risk of allergen contact in other areas of the kitchen and serving spaces. The food is served by Dining & Culinary staff to further reduce the chance of cross-contact.

“Because of our style of service, a risk for cross-contact exists in all the dining courts,” says Molly Winkeler, nutrition success manager and registered dietitian for Dining & Culinary. “With this new station, students are able to quickly receive their food without having to ask for assistance from staff or request food.”

With the addition of Infinite Solutions, Dining & Culinary now has three allergen-free stations in its dining courts. Wiley Dining Court offers a gluten-friendly station and Hillenbrand provides gluten and dairy-friendly options.
