As you move into your housing space, we’d love to see how you make it your campus home. Does your room show your Purdue pride? Or maybe it’s your well-being oasis? We're searching for the best decorated rooms in Purdue University Residences, and we’re prepared to reward you for your creativity. Bragging rights and great prizes like gift cards and Keurig coffee machines await!

How to Enter

  • Entries can be shared on Twitter or Instagram and should include one or more photos of your decorated room. 
    1. Your account must be public (so that we can see your post).
    2. Your profile or post must contain your real name and room type (single, double, or suite+) so we can contact you.
    3. You must include the hashtag #URRoomRanked.
    4. Entries must also tag the official Purdue University Residences account (@reslifeatpurdue – Instagram | Twitter).

  • Alternately, you can enter online via the secure UR Room Ranked submission form.

Guidelines for Photos

  • Make sure that your room is well lit when you take the photo.
  • Check that your photo is in focus.
  • It’s great if you (and/or your roommates) want to be in the photo submission, but it isn’t required.
  • “Selfies” are acceptable, but it’s best if you can ask another person to help take the photo.
  • Don't include any minor siblings or other family members in your photo.

Official Rules

  • You must be currently enrolled at Purdue and have signed a housing contract for the 2022-23 school year in order to win a prize.
  • If entering via a Twitter or Instagram post, your real name and room type (but not residence hall or room number) must be listed on your profile or included in your post so we can verify your eligibility and contact you.
  • Social media likes and shares are not factored into the judging.
  • Be careful not to do anything that damages your room. Any entries that are found to have violated the housing contract rules will be disqualified and ineligible for prizes. See the University Residences Guidelines and Policies for more information.
  • If you have a roommate or roommates, everyone living in the room must agree to enter the contest.
  • If you enter the contest, you agree to allow Purdue University Residences to use your photos, name, and likeness in promotional materials. You also agree to allow Purdue staff to take professional photographs of your decorated room if you win a prize.
  • For your safety, please don’t put your room number or residence hall in a social media post. Also, please be sure that any personally identifying information (like your name or initials), minor siblings, or other family members are not visible in submitted or posted images.
  • Entries will be accepted beginning on August 14 at 12:00 a.m.
  • All entries must be received by 11:59 p.m. on September 23, 2022.
  • Finalists and winners will be notified by email if you submitted your entry via the secure web form, so be sure to keep an eye on your inbox. We will try to contact you via DM if you submitted your entry on social media. If we can't reach you, another finalist or winner will be chosen.
  • Purdue University Residences reserves the right to modify the contest rules at its sole discretion. Prizes may be substituted for items of equal or greater value.

Contest Process Information and Prizes

A panel from Purdue Student Life Marketing will judge the entries based on:

  • Creativity
  • Theme/personality
  • Purdue pride
  • Use of materials
  • Overall look

This panel will select three finalists from each of the following categories:

  • Single room
  • Double room
  • Suite+ (triples, apartments, quads, other configurations) 

Professional photos will be taken of each finalist and shared on University Residences social media accounts. Finalists will receive:

  • A $10 Lawson gift card

A judging panel made up of administrators from University Residences will then select an overall winner in each of the three room categories. Overall winners will receive:

  • Every occupant of the room will receive a $50 Boiler Basket
  • Each room will win a Keurig coffee brewing machine
  • A meal at Walk-Ons in the Purdue Memorial Union will be held for all of the winners
