Owen

Community. That's what Owen Hall is all about. Located on the north side of campus, Owen is home to several Living Learning Communities where you will find a supportive academic and personal network. Owen Hall is co-ed, with genders separated by wings. Rooms at Owen Hall are primarily standard double rooms without air conditioning. However, all common areas do have central A/C. Keep scrolling to find out a great a/c alternative!

History

Owen Hall opened in 1957 and was named for Richard Owen. He distinguished himself as a scholar and a soldier upon immigrating to America from Scotland. Owen made significant contributions to the areas of geology, meteorology and seismology. He's also credited with developing extensive plans for the concept that eventually became Purdue University so it's no surprise he was appointed the university's first president in 1872!

What's it like to live at Owen?

Right next door to Owen is Ford Dining Court (known for their brick oven pizza, along with other delicious entrees!). Other dining options include the All-American Dining Room and Cary Knight Spot in Cary Quad, Wiley Dining Court, Jersey Mike's and Chick-Fil-A (both inside Griffin North). Many of your classes will likely be close by, so you will love the convenience of living here.

You're Connected To Campus Life

The famous Slayter Hill is just to the west of Owen, where you can enjoy concerts and a great place to go sledding. Mackey Arena and Ross-Ade Stadium is a short walk so sports fans love it here, too. Owen Hall provides residents a way to stay connected to all aspects of life at Purdue!

A/C Alternative

While no air conditioning may be a deal-breaker for some, there is a great alternative our students utilize to not only cool off their space but also, to meet their neighbors! With two box fans in the windows, one facing in and one facing out, and having the door open across the hall, students can create a breezy, cool space while meeting new friends in the process. Although the student rooms are not air conditioned, remember all common areas have central A/C so there is always a place to cool off if you need to.
