UR Student Office Staff

Student Office Staff (SOS)

SOS positions are located within one of the many residence halls and locations are based on availability. SOS shifts can be scheduled between 8 a.m. to 11 p.m. and are flexible with your class schedule. This position is customer service focused and every day will be a new experience. You will have the opportunity to work with students and staff in a fun, supportive, and dynamic environment!

Compensation

  • $9.00/hr 

Hours/Week 

  • Approximately 12+ hours per week
  • Required hours include days, weekends, evenings, overnights, and/or holiday

Prerequisite

None

Qualifications 

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Flexible and dependable with strong attention to detail
  • Proven problem-solving skills
  • Customer service oriented

Position Responsibilities 

  • Provide coverage at residence hall main offices working scheduled hours that will include days, evenings, overnights, weekends, holidays and/or University breaks.
  • Exhibit friendliness, diplomacy, and tact in responding to customers
  • Handle emergency situations and prioritize responsibilities while continuing to provide the highest level of customer service
  • Maintain competency in the operation, including proper check-in/check-out procedures for residents and checking out equipment as appropriate
  • Complete and submit repair requests online as needed
  • Distribute pertinent information to residents regarding upcoming events (i.e. bulletins, programs, and messages)
  • Must attend all scheduled staff meetings to gain relevant information
  • Maintain confidentiality and exhibit professional conduct when handling sensitive information
  • Report violations of University and/or University Residences policy
  • Exercise accountability for the proper handling and security of all issued keys, safe access, as well as hall property, i.e. hall equipment
  • Other duties as assigned

UR Night Access Task Force

Student Office Staff Night Access Task Force (NATF)

If you're a night owl or looking for shifts after 11 p.m., NATF positions are perfect for you! Located within one of our many residence halls, these positions are scheduled between 11 p.m. to 8 a.m.. This position is customer service focused and every day will be a new experience. You will have the opportunity to work with students and staff in a fun, supportive, and dynamic environment!

Compensation

  • $10.00/hr 

Hours/Week 

  • Approximately 12+ hours per week
  • Required shifts are overnights on weekdays, weekends, holidays and/or University breaks
  • Overnight shift hours are approximately 11:00 p.m. to 8:00 a.m..

Qualifications

  • Must be actively enrolled at Purdue University.
  • Previous work experience within University Residences preferred.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Flexible and dependable with strong attention to detail
  • Ability to work independently and with a team
  • Be timely and organized
  • Proven problem-solving skills
  • Customer service oriented

UR Student Office Coordinator

Student Office Coordinator (SOC)

SOC positions are an advancement opportunity for SOS. Located in our residence halls, this position works focuses on supervisory skills and customer service. Work closely with staff to create schedules and gain supervisory experience. This position is flexible with your class schedule and note every day is always the same.

Compensation

  • $10.00/hr 

Hours/Week 

  • Weekly average, approximately 15+ hours per week
  • Required hours include days, weekends, overnights, and/or holidays

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent and a minimum of one semester of college coursework successfully completed
  • Must be actively enrolled at Purdue University.
  • Previous work experience within University Residences preferred.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Flexible and dependable with strong attention to detail
  • Ability to multi-task and work within deadlines
  • Ability to work independently and with a team
  • Be timely and organized
  • Previous supervisory/leadership experience preferred
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office

Position Responsibilities 

  • Prepare, post, and maintain student office schedules as directed by supervising clerk
  • Assist with training of student office staff
  • Provide coverage at resident hall main offices working scheduled hours that will include days, evenings, overnights, weekends, holidays and/or University breaks.
  • Fulfill on-call responsibilities as part of a scheduled rotation
  • Coach, counsel, and discipline student employees as needed
  • Enforce all established office procedures
  • Complete and submit maintenance requests online
  • Must attend all scheduled staff meetings to gain and/or share pertinent information
  • Maintain confidentiality and exhibit professional conduct when handling sensitive information
  • Respond to emergencies according to established procedures
  • Report violations of University and/or University Residences policy
  • Maintain competency in the operation, including proper check-in/check-out procedures for residents and checking out equipment, as appropriate
  • Exercise accountability for the proper handling and security of all issued keys, safe access, as well as hall property, i.e. hall equipment
  • Other duties as assigned
